The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is the UK’s leading marine charity. It works to ensure that our seas have a future that is both healthy and plentiful. Pollution-filled and unprotected seas have a detrimental effect on us all. Key to MCS’s work is the value it puts on volunteers and the data they gather. From cleaning and surveying beaches, observing and reporting wildlife sightings and using its sustainable seafood information to make changes at grass roots, the data they gather helps MCS keep our oceans centre stage.

By purchasing an Advent of Change calendar, you will support MCS to continue running projects and campaigns to bring about positive change for our seas – better protection, less consumption of red-rated seafood and actions from governments to individuals to stop litter getting into the oceans in the first place.

More about Marine Conservation Society

Over the next twelve months MCS will be pushing for further changes for healthier seas. MCS was instrumental in achieving the 5p carrier bag charge, a ban on microbeads in scrubs and gels, and a reduction in the use of straws. Now the charity is pushing for a tax on single-use plastics, a deposit return scheme for drinks containers and better labelling for seafood.

We all love the sea, but many of us lose our connection to it as we leave our childhood behind. MCS knows just how connected we all are by the oceans – from the very air we breathe to the fish on our plate. The charity’s education team worked with over 10,000 children in just one year alone to bring the magic of the sea into the classroom. Support of the charity will help it engage with the next generation – the generation that we are saving the sea for today.
