Self Help Africa

Registered Charity Number 298830
Most of the world's extreme poor live in Africa and rely for a living on small farms that have the potential to produce much more. At Self Help Africa, we support rural households to grow more and earn more from these farms.
We provide families with the seed, tools and training to grow better quality food and to diversify what they produce, whilst encouraging climate adaptation practices to reduce vulnerability and build resilience in the long term.
We help communities to access profitable markets for their crops and to set up financial services, so that they can both borrow - to expand their work - and save, to protect their families from future economic shocks.
We believe that the solution to extreme poverty lies at the feet of the millions of African families who till the soil and farm the land. A helping hand from you is all it takes to create long-term lasting change. Will you join us?

More about Self Help Africa
For more than 50 years, Self Help Africa has been working towards our vision of an economically thriving and resilient rural Africa. Our mission is to improve the food and income security of smallholder farmers and their communities, who are among the most undernourished, food insecure and climate vulnerable people in the world.
Last year we worked with 548,000 farming households, across 8 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and impacted the lives of 3.7 million people. We enable and empower local people - so that they have the tools, the training, and the
necessary support to anticipate a future free from hunger and poverty. We give people a hand-up, not a hand-out.
With over 75% of Africa's population reliant on small-scale agriculture for their livelihoods, it is only through tackling the challenges faced by rural communities, that real and sustained economic progress can be made.
