Spinal Injuries Association

Registered Charity Number 1054097
Every four hours another person is paralysed, another family torn apart.
The effects of spinal cord injury include full or partial paralysis, as well as loss of mobility, bladder and bowel control, and sexual function. Many people also live in pain. The combination of these consequences often has a profound impact on people’s mental wellbeing. Our vision is a fulfilled life for everyone affected by spinal cord injury.

More about SIA

For over 45 years, SIA has supported people with a spinal cord injury on their unique journey towards leading an independent and fulfilled life. We support spinal cord injured people and their families by advising, educating, supporting and campaigning on their behalf. We’re a people-led organisation with 13,000+ members and a workforce with lived experience of injury.

We support all spinal cord injured people, as well as their families, carers and the healthcare professionals that support them through our national support network of services and partners. We provide peer support to give people with a spinal cord injury the shared experience, strength and inspiration they need.

Through our spinal cord injury nurse specialist service, we deliver clinical advice to save lives, represent and advocate on behalf of people whose access to basic rights is being handled unfairly. Our counselling service provides professional emotional support, while our freephone support line advises people on day-to-day issues and acts as a gateway to SIA’s services.

It’s estimated that over 50,000 people live with a spinal cord injury in the UK, with 2,500 people sustaining an injury every year. With your help we can provide a network of support to help every spinal cord injured person rebuild their life after injury.
