When a child has a serious illness, family life is turned upside down and time becomes more precious than ever. For 37 years, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity has been supporting families caring for a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness.

Rainbow Trust pairs each family with an expert Family Support Worker who enables them to make the most of time together, giving them practical and emotional support, whenever they need it, for as long as is needed.

We support the whole family including parents, carers, the unwell child, brothers, sisters and grandparents. Support is hugely varied and depends on the needs of the family. It can include:

  • listening to a family’s fears and anxieties
  • helping to explain illnesses, diagnoses and treatments
  • keeping a seriously ill child company during hospital stays
  • driving families to medical appointments to help save time and money
  • organising fun activities to help sick children, their brothers and sisters
  • support through bereavement and grief.

More about Rainbow Trust Children's Charity

Currently, there are over 86,000 children in England with a life-limited or life-threatening condition. With this number rising, thousands of families are facing the very real possibility that their child may die.

Our mission is to ensure every family who has a child with a life-threatening illness receives the support they need. Bridging the gap between hospital and home, Rainbow Trust reduces the strain on the NHS and provides a unique service - no other organisation provides the range of social palliative care that we do.

£6 could buy fun arts and crafts activities to keep a seriously ill child entertained.

£10 could provide a memory box for a bereaved child to remember their sibling.

£15 could pay for the cost of a fun day out for a sibling of a seriously ill child who just wants to have some fun.

£30 could provide an hour’s practical and emotional support for a family caring for a seriously ill child, helping them make the most of their precious time together.

We cannot change a child’s diagnosis, but we can allow a family to have quality time together when they need it the most.
