Registered Charity Number 1146149

The only national charity solely dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people, Re-engage alleviates loneliness in the oldest old (those aged 75+). Over 9,200 dedicated volunteers work within local communities across the UK to end social isolation and loneliness in older people.

Many older people are still too nervous to socialise as a result of the pandemic and are having to cut off their social connections to save money due to the cost-of-living crisis. Nobody should have to see human contact as a luxury they can’t afford.

“It’s fine if you’ve got family nearby but I’ve got no one. It just feels endless.”

Last year, our free services helped over 6,500 older people who are incredibly lonely to find new friends in their local communities or over the phone. Our core services include monthly social groups, typically in the form of tea parties in volunteer host homes; our telephone befriending service call companions which is particularly helpful for those who are housebound or live rurally; and Community Christmas ensuring older people don’t have to face the festive season alone by connecting them with a Christmas telephone caller.

“I tell my four walls I can’t speak to them today. I have real people to talk to."
